About Michelin

Founded in Clermont-Ferrand in 1889, Michelin is the world’s second-largest tyre manufacturer and the most-decorated brand in independent tyre testing. The Pilot Sport 4 S took overall victory in the 2026 ACE Summer Tyre Test — the third consecutive year a Michelin has either won or finished within a point of winning.

The range is anchored by four pillars: Pilot Sport for performance, Primacy for comfort and EVs, CrossClimate for all-season, and Latitude for SUVs and 4×4s. CrossClimate 3 (launched 2024) is widely regarded as the UK’s best all-season tyre — a single fit that genuinely works year-round on British roads.

Michelin owns BFGoodrich (4×4 specialist) and Kleber (mid-tier), and is the OE choice for the latest Tesla Model Y, Polestar, and several Range Rover hybrid variants. Their core engineering focus is "make tyres that perform when new, perform when worn" — a Michelin at 3mm typically performs like a budget tyre at 6mm.

Signature technology

  • Acoustic Technology (cabin noise reduction)
  • EverGrip wet-grip compound
  • StabiliGrip rigid sidewall

Michelin in Surrey

Michelin is the workhorse choice across Surrey. CrossClimate 3 is the default we fit when a customer wants one set of tyres for everything — commuting, school run, the occasional drive to Cornwall. Pilot Sport 4 SUV is on more Range Rovers and X5s in KT10 than any other premium summer tyre. We hold the popular CrossClimate, Primacy and Pilot Sport sizes in stock.

FAQ

Michelin — your questions, answered

Is Michelin really worth the extra money?+
On a long-term basis, almost always yes. Michelin pricing sits 10-20% above mid-tier brands but typical mileage is 25-35% higher — so cost per mile is often better. The other advantage Michelin has: performance stays consistent as the tyre wears, where cheaper tyres typically lose grip after 50% wear.
What is CrossClimate and is it actually a "fit once" all-season?+
Yes — for the UK climate, CrossClimate 3 is the most credible "one tyre, year-round" choice on the market. It carries 3PMSF (3-peak mountain snowflake) certification meaning it’s legally valid as a winter tyre in Europe, but it doesn’t penalise summer performance the way pure winter tyres do. Particularly good for drivers who don’t want to swap tyres seasonally.
What's the difference between Pilot Sport and Primacy?+
Pilot Sport is the performance line — sharper steering, more dry grip, slightly stiffer ride, shorter life. Primacy is the comfort/long-life line — quieter, softer ride, longer wear, slightly less ultimate grip. For an everyday saloon or EV: Primacy. For a hot-hatch or performance saloon: Pilot Sport.
Do Michelin tyres come with EV variants?+
Yes — Primacy 5 has an EV-specific variant (extra-rigid sidewall, optimised compound for instant torque, lower rolling resistance). Pilot Sport 4 EV is the performance option. We stock the popular sizes for Tesla, Polestar, BMW iX and i4, Audi e-tron.
How long do Michelin tyres last?+
Real-world averages: CrossClimate 3 on a family saloon — 35,000-45,000 miles. Pilot Sport 5 on a performance car — 18,000-25,000 miles. Primacy 5 on an EV — 25,000-35,000 miles. Latitude Sport 3 on a 4×4 — 22,000-30,000 miles. All assume reasonable driving and correct pressures.
Where are Michelin tyres made?+
Michelin operates 117 factories across 26 countries. Most premium UK fitments come from European plants (France, Germany, Italy, Romania, Hungary). All carry the same warranty regardless of country of manufacture.
